Conveyancing enquiries have doubled in January 2024

Compare My Move has seen a significant rise in people enquiring for solicitors between December 2023 and January 2024, seeing a 110% total increase in enquiries.

This comes alongside the focus that the government is continuing to implement on the digital side of property buying as well as a slight recovery in the housing market. Below they have displayed the conveyancing enquiry types and the percentage increase in their enquiries from December 2023 to January 2024.

Enquiry Type Increase
Sale and Purchase +157
Sale only +114.6%
Purchase only +101.7%
Remortgage +74.7%
Total +110.4%

Each sale and purchase enquiry more than doubled between the months, with people enquiring about both sales and purchases increasing by more than 150%.

One reason for this sudden increase in people searching for conveyancers is that UK house prices rose 0.7% month-on-month in January and saw a further recovery in the annual rate of change, with prices down just 0.2% compared with a year ago, according to the latest Nationwide house price index. Dave Sayce, MD and Founder of Compare My Move said:

“There has been an increased focus on the digital side of property buying with the Land Registries 2022+ and the Conveyancing Association conference surrounding the digital age of conveyancing. Therefore, it’s nice to see lead generation paving the way.

The drop in mortgage rates from last year, and the beginning of a rise in house prices will also allow people to start buying and selling their houses with a bit more flexibility in 2024, sales will be completed faster and we will see an increase of conveyancing clients coming through Compare My Move in 2024.

More people are going to be completing their conveyancing online in the next few years and we’re very happy to be able to help people find the right conveyancers for them.”
