In July, Warwick District Council’s data was the first to migrate onto a digital platform. The process made searches available via the new digital Local Land Charges (LLC). Under the HM Land Registry’s (HMLR)new digital process, anyone requiring local land charge searches in the local authority will now get them from HM Land Registry rather than going to the council.
Now, Warwick District Council have commented on the success of extending their digital footprint in land searches by increasing the amount of data that can be accessed online.
Since the LLC service launched, the council claim that the ability to search for land charges online has been a ‘great benefit’ to homebuyers and has significantly reduced the process to seconds.
Gary Fisher, Warwick Council’s Development Manager, commented: “I’m very proud that Warwick District Council has led the way on this project and am very pleased to be able to give advice and support to other authorities as they embark on this journey.”
Alan Rhead, Warwick District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Development Councillor, added: “Our ground-breaking work means that property buyers, agents and conveyancers will be able to carry out local land charges searches online, reducing time spent requesting information and waiting for the search results. By speeding up the process from days to seconds, we are helping to make home buying simpler, faster and cheaper.”
Graham Farrant, Chief Executive and Chief Land Registrar, said: ““Warwick District Council is leading the way by being the first local authority to migrate their local land charges data to our new register. I look forward to more local authorities joining the central register during the year.”
The council seem pleased to have been a part of HMLR’s ground-breaking initiative and are now enjoying helping and advising other local authorities on the transition and migration process, including discussing the process to over 300 local authority representatives at the National Local Land Charges Conference.
Now that three local authority’s have migrated their LLC data and seem pleased with the results, will it be long before others also adopt a digital pathway?
