This year solicitors will be able to complete the keeping the roll process online through the mySRA portal.
The exercise will run from mid-April to mid-June. The 2013 fee of £20 will be payable by credit or debit card as part of the application process.
Solicitors whose names have been on the roll for 50 years or more do not have to pay a fee. Antony Townsend, SRA Chief Executive, said: "We are pleased to be able to offer the keeping of the roll exercise online this year.
"Over the past two years we have been moving our applications and services online to save individuals, firms and the SRA both time and money.
“The SRA will be contacting all individuals eligible to stay on the roll in April, setting out the timescale and encouraging them to complete the relevant application online through mySRA depending on whether they wish to keep their name on the roll of solicitors or request removal from the roll of solicitors.”
Solicitors without a practising certificate who have not yet activated their mySRA account will be receiving a letter in the next few weeks asking them to do so as a matter of urgency.
Completed applications and payment have to be made by the notified deadline, otherwise individuals’ names may be removed from the roll of solicitors.
Anyone wishing to request restoration to the roll of solicitors, will also need to do this via mySRA
