Future bright for conveyancing as awards showcase innovation and excellence

The conveyancing profession came together to celebrate and recognise excellence at the 4th annual British Conveyancing Awards, sponsored by property due diligence report provider Groundsure. 21 individuals, firms and organisations were recognised over the course of the evening in, at a glitzy ceremony hosting 350 property professionals at 8 Northumberland Avenue, London.

The awards showcase talent, excellence and innovation with a shortlist made up of suppliers, firms and organisations from across the conveyancing landscape.

In the individual categories Alex Gregory-Chialton of Dutton Gregory Solicitors beat Karen Turner of PCS Legal to “Business Development Champion of the Year” while Louise James (Winner) and Greg Short (Highly Commended), both consultants with Taylor Rose MW were recognised in the Consultant Solicitor of the Year. Mohammed Khaliq of Northwood Banks & Co Ltd won the coveted ‘One to Watch’ Conveyancer of the Year and in a new for 2024 category, Movera’s Nick Hale won “Outstanding Business Leader of the Year” with Suman Dally of Swiitch Highly Commended.

One of the most closely contested firm categories was “New Build Conveyancing Team of the Year,” with Birketts LLP and Switalskis Solicitors recognised as Winners and Highly Commended respectively. Dezrezlegal Limited pipped Oliver and Co Solicitors to the highly regarded “Customer Service Champions” category; the Chester-based firm were recognised as being the best of the crop in the North though, taking home “Conveyancing Firm of the Year – North” with Bell Lamb & Joynson Solicitors Highly Commended. Landsmiths Solicitors and Howell-Jones LLP won Conveyancing Firm of the Year Midlands and South respectively.

Newcomers Orbital Witness were recognised for their work with Enact in the “Conveyancing Collaborators of the Year” category and recently launched outsourced legal services provider Auxilio, taking home new for 2024 category “Start-up Service Provider of the Year.”

InfoTrack scooped Legal Supplier of the Year for a second year running with tmgroup Highly Commended. But tmgroup weren’t to be denied a win securing “Supporting the Industry”, with Access Legal Highly Commended.

The penultimate category of the awards, “Conveyancing Firm of the Year – National” recognises firms who have evidenced excellence in their approach to people, technology, process, professional development and technical excellence. Birchall Blackburn Law, Convey Law and Ramsdens Solicitors LLP were all shortlisted, with Ramsdens Solicitors LLP taking the honours, Convey Law Highly Recommended.

The room was brought to its feet for the final award of the evening; The Today’s Conveyancer Industry Champion, sponsored by Taylor Rose MW. An award which is nominated and voted for by the conveyancing profession and recognises the individuals who have contributed to the life and times of the sector over the past 12 months. In the shortlist of Rob Hailstone, Natalie Moore and Beth Rudolf are 3 people who have done so much to promote the role of conveyancers and champion the community. And having been on the shortlist for the last 2 years, it was third time lucky for Rob Hailstone who was recognised at the 2024 Champion.

  1. Rob Hailstone Industry champion? No surprise given this site is nothing more than free publicity for him, but definitely a new low for the profession. Stephen Desmond was the most obvious winner. Don’t believe me take a look at Law Gazette’s website and see the rude offensive comments he is making in the direction of more knowledgeable conveyancers he does not agree with? Nothing more than a rude troll calling others ill-informed, not his fault just everyone else’s he feels threatened and is often plain wrong. Hardly mature behaviour one would expect of a Industry Champion?
About time the Law Society took action against him and I will be contacting them. And NCW sponsors with other information they may be interested in seeing which will show him as even more than a divisive character. Did you not carry out due diligence in your rush to massage his ego?
