A partnership between Property Conveyancing Consultancy (PCC) and Today’s Media will provide a range of post-completion training opportunities for conveyancers.
PCC Training Hub will provide bitesize training for practitioners on the intricacies of post completion work based on all HM Land Registry’s 83 practice guides, through Today’s Training. The sessions will cover topics including :
- Adverse Possession of unregistered and registered land
- Notices and Restrictions
- The relationship between Form A Restrictions and Overreaching
- Determination of Leases
- Electronic Signatures
Included in each training session are course notes and a handy keynote tool to use as a means to reduce complex requisitions on each topic.
PCC was launched by Priscilla Sinder in 2015 specialising in post-completion support for firms following 10 years’ experience working as a property solicitor. In 2024 The Hub was created solely aimed at perfecting applications to HM Land Registry, and offering risk and compliance packages to the profession, together with mentoring guidance and open forum debates about all things post-completion Now working with consultants whose combined experience is over 230 years PCC says it is the leading business partner in offering post-completion services to the profession; and has been recognised and endorsed by HM land Registry.
Post completion has been identified by both the Council for Licensed Conveyancers (CLC), and HM Land Registry (HMLR) as an area of significant risk and focus. The CLC’s 2024 Risk Outlook included post-completion work for the first time, saying poor practice was a ‘growing concern… as these failures are sometimes only identified years later, causing significant risk, stress and delays to consumers and other interested parties.’
While the regulator acknowledged delays at HMLR caused issues, ‘slow or sloppy title change applications’ make things worse. HMLR themselves say errors could be costing the sector as much as £19m in time dealing with ‘avoidable’ requisitions. The partnership with Today’s Media will introduce PCC’s post-completion training modules on to the Today’s Training service. Today’s Training was launched in 2021 to provide easy-access pay-as-you-go online CPD/continuing competence training for practitioners. Through partnerships with PCC, IQ Legal Training and other experts, the service provides a range of conveyancing specific, and wider business training opportunities including a current Risk Management Series with expert speakers on topics ranging from effective crisis management and cyber security, ID fraud and countering criminals, and management and culture.
Discussing the partnership Priscilla Sinder said
“The Hub’s purpose is to translate HM Land Registry Practice Guides content into extremely useful everyday tools. Which is underpinned by legislation and rules, creating a platform of in-depth knowledgeable practitioners who are able to entwine this erudition throughout the conveyancing transaction.”
“There are so many errors made at the pre-exchange stage that can have a detrimental effect on post-completion; thus by understanding what is needed to perfect an application submitted to HM Land Registry not only creates a seamless end to the transaction for the client but makes you more compliant from a lender point of view, risk-averse for the firm’s professional indemnity insurers and you become an expert in all stages of conveyancing.”
