The National Property Law Conference 2022: Roadmap to the Future, Thursday 13th October
From the race to net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, to the digitalisation of property transactions – the future of property law is looking virtually green.
But what steps are being made across the property sector achieve this?
On Thursday 13th October, The Law Society will bring property experts from HM Land Registry, Savills, Nationwide, and Blick Rothenberg to share the latest updates across residential and commercial property law.
The programme will outline a roadmap for your firm’s future to reach this ambitious target, as well as address key questions such as:
- What are the new government’s plans for the real estate world?
- How will they manage the current cost-of-living crisis?
- Are we on track to achieve net-zero by 2050?
The roadmap will be delivered in a series of plenaries and workshops, covering three key themes:
Property Law and the new Government
Charles Roe, Director of Mortgages, UK Finance will be leading this year’s keynote speech to offer his thoughts on technological change in home-buying and selling, the relationship between lenders and conveyancers, and how the market may develop in the future.
Environmentalism and sustainability
Green leases are a fast-growing area providing opportunities to landowners to adjust to this change as first adopters and provide opportunities for solicitors as a new line of business to advise on as the regulatory, market and physical environment shifts. This session will reflect on the forthcoming guidance the current “green leases project” and Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards, and the recent publication of “Strategy 2022+”.
Digitalisation of Property Law
HM Land Registry has recently shared its three-year business plan to deliver a “world leading digital property market”. By 2024/25, the homebuying process will take place online making for a quicker, more efficient, and user-friendly process. Hear from HM Land Registry to understand the benefits of digital ID is used in transactions, digital signatures, and digital execution which satisfies safe harbour.
To conclude the conference, the Law Society will be hosting a drinks reception at 113 Chancery Lane, to further continue discussions on the programme, share experiences with fellow property practitioners, and raise any queries with the speakers themselves.
