HMLR to introduce enhanced submission verification to reduce requisitions

HM Land Registry say an enhanced checking service will be available to all customers submitting applications through the Business Gateway-enabled software that will stop unnecessary requisitions by preventing ‘simple administrative errors’ from being submitted.

Verification of data like ensuring the Charge date is in the present and not a date in the future, omissions of applicant and borrower names, confirmation of Declaration of trust, and title number errors will be highlighted on submission for all digital applications; preventing their submission and reducing requisitions.

By resolving these errors before accepting applications, we will save our customers thousands of hours spent on unnecessary administrative tasks and enable an improved speed of service by allowing caseworkers to focus on the more complex areas of land registration.

says HMLR, adding many of these checks are already being performed in the Digital Registration Service on the portal and are being rolled out this year for all Business Gateway-enabled software.

Mark Gray, Chief Transformation & Technology Officer, said

“This is another key milestone in improving our customer service and our processing times. By preventing errors up-front, automating routine tasks and removing unnecessary correspondence, we will save time for our customers and our caseworkers alike. And this is just the next step in modernising and automating more of our work, there is much more to come.”

HMLR say the changes could save an estimated 300,000 hours a year, adding it is an example of the agency’s focus on reducing and removing ‘easily avoidable, administrative errors to save customers’ time’; as well as further automating HMLR processes. Further data verification checks contained in transfer and charge deeds are planned for late 2026.
