The Law Society of England and Wales have launched two webinars as part of its consultation and engagement around the TA6 fifth edition updates.
The webinars will be pre-recorded and will be published during Property Week (14 to 18 October) covering topic areas where members have asked questions or expressed concern. The Law Society are encouraging conveyancers to submit questions in advance via their online form. The deadline for questions is midday Friday 20th September.
Webinar 1: Understanding the TA6 – the legal position
This webinar will explore the changes introduced in the fifth edition of the TA6 form and whether they affect the legal position of sellers, solicitors and conveyancers. In particular, they will be reviewing obligations and liabilities.
Some of the areas to be covered include:
- obligations and liabilities for sellers, solicitors and estate agents
- contractual liability and clause 6 of the Standard Conditions of Sale
- misrepresentation: innocent, fraudulent and negligent
- the current status of ‘caveat emptor’
- the scope for criminal offences
- the relevance of the SRA Code of Conduct
Webinar 2: Digital developments in residential conveyancing
This webinar will explore how digital developments are impacting different parts of residential conveyancing. It will look at what has already changed and what’s coming next and some of the issues to be covered include:
- digital ID
- electronic and digital signatures
- digital innovations in conveyancing forms
Deputy Vice President of the Law Society Mark Evans joined a recent Today’s Conveyancer podcast to discuss his experience of working in property law, his view of conveyancing and the challenges and opportunities facing the profession. Alongside the work on the TA6 consultation, he also discussed the upcoming Property Law Conference in October which will cover many of the topics conveyancers need to know about; including the next round of guidance on climate change, legislative updates, TA6 consultation progress and technology.
