Applications are now open for funding to address cladding fire safety risks in buildings under 11 metres.

The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) maintains that buildings under 11 metres are less likely to have widespread cladding fire safety risks. However, funding may be available where a fire risk appraisal of external walls, undertaken by a suitably qualified and competent professional in accordance with PAS 9980:2022, identifies unsafe cladding that presents a serious life critical fire safety risk.

The funding is operated through the Cladding Safety Scheme, delivered by Homes England. Eligibility criteria and application process align with the scheme and are set out in the relevant section of the fund overview.

The funding is part of wider changes implemented by MHCLG to how buildings are prioritised for remediation. Instead of focusing mainly on building height, the government will prioritise buildings based on the risk they pose to residents, ensuring those with the most serious safety concerns are addressed first.

“This delivers the government’s commitment in the Remediation Acceleration Plan Update (July 2025) and supports a risk-based approach to remediation”, MHCLG and Homes England said. “Funding will be prioritised according to cladding fire safety risk, with priority given to buildings that present a high life critical cladding fire safety risk.”

Applications for funding are now open and eligible responsible entities can apply via the Building Remediation Hub. The application window will close on 9th October 2026.
