The Council of Licensed Conveyancers (CLC) has launched a consultation on the recent price publication recommendations from the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).
In order to avoid bringing in new rules, the CLC are hoping that firms will respond positively to the proposed changes.
Along with a number of other regulators, the CLC are consulting on proposals to implement these recommendations which aim to improve the price transparency of legal services.
Collectively working with CILEx Regulation and the Solicitors Regulation Authority, the regulators are aiming to consider and agree to a consistent format for provision of price estimates for conveyancing and probate services.
Whilst it is hoped that a level playing field for both firms and consumers can be reached, they stress the vitality of ensuring that arrangements are applied evenly.
Commenting on the importance of providing consumers with choice and encouraging competition, was Sheila Kumar. The Chief Executive of the CLC stated: “It is vital to empower consumers and in turn continue to foster competition and innovation in the legal services we regulate. We are also very conscious that this work should not be all about price and we will do what we can to help firms signal the quality of their service to clients.”
The CLC’s consultation can be accessed here.
The CLC are also set to launch webinars focussing on certain elements of the proposals. More information on these is to come.
