Referral scheme aims to put clients in touch with non-UK legal professionals

A new referral scheme aims to provide lawyers with access to vetted expertise in Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

The scheme – known as J-Law – has been launched by Judicare Law International, a UK-based, SRA-regulated law firm.

The model is similar to that used by Connect2Law, the popular referral scheme launched by Simon McCrum whilst he was at Manchester-based Pannone in the 2000’s. As with Connect2Law, J-Law will work with “trusted and regulated lawyers and law firms” to provide services to clients who have international legal needs.

Explaining how Judicare works, CEO Neil Heaney said:

“Judicare is building a community that enables UK law firms to harness international capability and to service all their clients’ international legal needs. Law firms can participate in this community and access a range of benefits for their lawyers and their clients. The community provides access to UK and foreign lawyers for a no-charge, no-obligation first consultation for international legal needs outside of a UK firm’s immediate expertise.”

Importantly, adds Heaney, firms can refer work with no threat to their relationship with their client, as Judicare does not compete at all with UK law firms.

Heaney concluded:

“Here at Judicare we are passionate about helping UK clients to avoid falling into traps when dealing with legal matters abroad. That’s why we set the business up. We have achieved some incredible things for clients that might otherwise have been at greater risk in market places abroad. We’d like more UK law firms to know how we can help them and their clients, hence building up the J-Law community. We’ll always take the call from a UK law firm and see whether and how we can help”.
