A Q&A with Colin Bohanna: What’s next for legal tech?

Following the recent announcement of his appointment, we sat down with Colin Bohanna, the newly appointed managing director of Dye & Durham UK, to learn more about his background, his priorities and his vision for the business.

With more than two decades of experience in technology, sales leadership and international strategy – and a genuine passion for mentoring and customer success – Colin brings fresh energy to the UK legal tech sector.

In this Q&A, he shares what attracted him to the role, the changes already underway and what legal professionals can expect from Dye & Durham in the months ahead.

Colin, welcome to Dye & Durham UK. What drew you to the MD role?

I’ve worked in the tech space for more than two decades, with everyone from early-stage startups to global companies like Oracle, Clio, and Indeed. What’s always excited me is the opportunity to help organisations use technology to solve real problems and unlock growth. Dye & Durham is at a turning point, and I saw a chance to help shape a strong, customer-focused business built on an incredible foundation of knowledge, capability, and legacy.

You’ve joined at a time of transition. What are your immediate priorities?

We’re moving from a national structure to a more regionally focused model, one that better reflects the unique needs of the UK legal sector. That’s already making a difference. Internally, we’re aligning teams and simplifying how we work together. Externally, we’re rolling out improvements like Zendesk to strengthen support, resolve issues faster and give customers a more consistent experience. It’s all part of delivering the kind of service legal professionals deserve.

Dye & Durham has brought together a number of leading legal tech and service providers in recent years. How are you approaching that as part of your strategy?

Absolutely. Dye & Durham has brought together many of the UK’s most respected technology and service providers. This is our opportunity to bring all of that under one cohesive brand, with decades of expertise and industry knowledge now delivered through a unified platform. It’s a strong proposition and one I’m proud to lead.

Mentoring seems to be a big part of your life. Why does it matter to you?

I’ve mentored startup founders through Enterprise Ireland for the past eight years. Entrepreneurs have incredible ideas and energy, but sometimes lack the commercial experience to scale. Helping them bridge that gap, whether it’s structure, go-to-market strategy or leadership. This is something I find really rewarding. That mentoring mindset is something I bring into the workplace too: creating space for people to grow and contribute.

And when you’re not leading legal tech transformation…?

You’ll usually find me pitch-side, watching my daughter play football! There’s actually a parallel with work: it’s about supporting talent, building confidence, and trusting people to make great decisions under pressure. Whether it’s football or business, great things happen when you back your team!”
