New Toolkit launched to support Lawyers with Material Information Services

To coincide with National Conveyancing week, the Home Owner’s Passport (HOP) has released its Material Information Lawyers’ Toolkit.

The toolkit has been developed as a response to the new Trading Standards Material Information Guidance which mandates estate agents to include a broader scope of information at the property listing stage – information that was traditionally part of the conveyancing process.

With the increase in complexity surrounding compliance estate agents are increasingly seeking support from lawyers to help to assimilate and summarise the required information.  Recognising this need the Toolkit offers a suite of resources for lawyers who wish to provide such services to agents, including Guidance and FAQs, Training Resources and access to the Home Owner’s Passport app, designed to streamline the assembly and summarisation of the required documentation for property listings.

In addition, the Home Owner’s Passport also includes pre drafted contract pack documentation and Lawyer Packs including replies to pre-emptive enquiries, designed to save significant time on conveyancing transactions for law firms, ensuring properties are conveyancing ready well in advance of an offer. Sally Holdway, director at HOP said:

“The new Trading Standards Guidance is clear that instructing a lawyer earlier in the process should be now be considered for every transaction.  However, traditionally it has been challenging for lawyers to get involved pre-offer due to internal costs of delivery.  This Toolkit has been designed to support lawyers to be able to offer a service which is low cost to deliver, but also to provide the resources a law firms needs to be able to hit the ground running with setting up Material Information products.   We hope it’s not only going to support more lawyers being instructed pre offer, but also facilitate new revenue channels for law firms.”
