A consultancy that will help law firms navigate the world of legal technology has been launched by Tom Lyes, former director of engagement at conveyancing risk management company Lawyer Checker and more recently head of legal and property at tech company Armalytix.
Tom Lyes Consultancy (TLC) will help firms to identify and implement the increasingly business-critical selection of products available, with services including a full tech audit to identify the most relevant products, supplier management and liaison, and project management of implementation.
‘The tools and processes law firms need to do their jobs have changed massively over the last 10 years, and there’s a huge amount of choice’, Lyes explained.
“Knowing what technology you need to meet which challenges can be incredibly confusing, and a firm might have to sit through five or 10 demos from suppliers to try and work out what they need.
“I can remove that burden by spending time with the firm, understanding the key challenges they face, and then presenting two or three solutions that will be geared exactly towards meeting their needs.”
As well as sourcing the relevant technology, Lyes will help firms work with suppliers to ensure they receive the best commercial benefit. He added:
“I spent years in operational management with a conveyancing firm before moving onto the supplier side, so I can see things from both sides. I can liaise with suppliers to help firms get the maximum value from the relationships and make sure they get the best products and pricing.”
And when it comes to implementing the new technology, Lyes says he can oversee the whole project to ensure fee earners don’t have to take on extra tasks.
‘Any new system requires a change in processes and procedures, but firms rarely have the resources available to dedicate the time to do this effectively’, Lyes explained.
“Rather than a department head taking on extra responsibility and taking them away from revenue-based activities, I can manage implementation to ensure the systems are up and running without any gaps in service or productivity – as well as compliant with all relevant regulations.
“I am incredibly excited to have launched TLC. This is the culmination of everything I’ve learned in the legal sector. I want to create something that helps forward-thinking businesses thrive not just by advising them, but by working alongside them to achieve their goals.”
