The Lord Chancellor has warned that there is still much to be done in the legal services sector and that it cannot afford to stand still.
Addressing potential applicants for the role of Legal Services Board Chair, David Lidington highlighted the positive changes which had occurred within the sector, particularly in relation to fixed fees and quality of service.
However, he also drew on the market study from the Competition and Markets Authority, stating that it shows ‘there is still much to done’.
Lidington also focussed on the need for greater diversity and innovation within the sector, especially if it is to attract new providers and support the legal profession going forward. Reinforcing this, He also mentioned the implementation of an appropriate framework.
Describing the role of the new Chair, Lidington outlined that the candidate should strive to work toward these aims, with a need to ensure that ‘regulation underpins the undoubted reputation of England and Wales’ legal sector at home and abroad’.
Open to ‘lay members’, applications for the role are being accepted until 16 November 2017.
