HMLR accelerates Digital Registration Service

HMLR has announced that it will be moving all application types to the Digital Registration Service this year, including leases and transfers of part, months earlier than originally planned.

In November 2022, HMLR announced that most AP1 applications to change the register via the online portal will only be possible through the new Digital Registration Service. Some AP1 applications – namely leases and transfers of part – were not planned to be part of the service until 2023. But due to ongoing work and recent developments, HMLR says that all application types will now be available as part of the new digital service.

The Digital Registration Service is currently operational and being used be used for most AP1 applications, and over the next six months the remaining transaction types will be added ahead of the switchover. This will give users time to move to the new system before the withdrawal of the electronic Document Registration Service in November.

HMLR has reported that customers using the new Digital Registration Service have already seen significant improvements in requisition rates and found it quicker and easier to use than the old system.

Andrea Fairweather, Residential Property Partner at Birchall Blackburn, said: “It’s definitely making a difference. Taking the time to switch to the new service has been worth the benefits.”

HMLR has advised that it is committed to working with customers over the next six months to support migrations. For further information or help with making the switch to digital, please get in touch at drs@landregistry.gov.uk
