GLP Crumpsall has been the first firm to exit the Law Society’s Conveyancing Quality Scheme (CQS). GLP Crumpsall are part of GLP Solicitors, a group comprised of independent partnerships who have law practices across Greater Manchester. As the other GLP firms are all separately authorised and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority no other GLP firm is affected by their withdrawal.
Manchester based GLP Crumpsall has voluntarily withdrawn from the scheme following entrance into the Assigned Risks Pool (ARP).
Des Hudson, Law Society Chief Executive, commented:
“It was an obvious decision for GLP Crumpsall to voluntarily withdraw from the CQS in light of their presence in the assigned risk pool.
It says a lot about how the CQS is perceived by the profession when a firm immediately acknowledges that it is no longer compatible with the scheme’s requirements.”
The scheme has only been active since January 2011 and purports to have a “robust” assessment procedure. One may ask why a firm that has been in the CQS less than a year passed the entrance test?
The CQS, which has 1,070 accredited firms and a further 560 firms awaiting their application assessment, could be under pressure now to prove that the accreditation is worth the paper it’s written on. We would love to hear what you think of this latest CQS news.
