The last eighteen months have been a particularly busy time for conveyancers, with some of us only just coming up for air as the Stamp Duty holiday deadline looms in the next few weeks.
On one hand, our industry has been incredibly fortunate during this pandemic to be maintaining and in some cases, growing businesses. Offering jobs to people at a time when many are struggling to find work has been a privilege. On the other hand however, I know businesses that have been crippled by rising recruitment costs and insurance premiums, Covid breakouts and cash flow challenges, leaving some with no option but to streamline or even close. It’s devastating to see this happening to good conveyancing firms.
There’s no doubt that it’s been a gruelling time for us all. September 30th not only represents the end of the Stamp Duty holiday, it’s also a time to congratulate our industry, and take a moment to recognise the hard work we have collectively put in to help keep the economy going. How are you going to celebrate? Aconveyancing is marking the day with a Facebook takeover to recognise the achievements of our staff during such a busy period, discuss industry issues, while raising money for a great cause at the same time.
On the day itself, a handful of the team will be giving a small amount of their time to take part in the takeover, and industry guest speakers will join live video sessions to offer insight and discussion on topics including:
- The top 10 most commonly asked conveyancing questions
- Tips for those thinking of buying or selling property
- Advice on estate planning, Wills & Probate
- Expert opinion from local estate and letting agents
- Mortgage advice from an industry specialist
It’s going to be a busy and fun day but it’s one we won’t forget and bringing our team and partners together is an important way for us to mark it.
Our charity partner, Alex’s Wish, raises much needed funds for research to treat and one day eradicate Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a genetic condition which affects one in every 3,500 boys. We are privileged to be raising funds for this cause and if anyone would like to sponsor the efforts of the team, the link is at the end of this article.
There’s lots for business owners to reflect on, but we also need to keep an eye on the month ahead – with staff taking off much needed and delayed annual leave, is the appropriate cover being provided in their absence?
When the day comes around, enjoy it and the weekend afterwards! This is a moment for us to reflect on what has worked these last eighteen months. Keeping fees up, across the board, has to continue. The race to the bottom serves none of us in the long run.
