The Conveyancing Association to hold online roundtable to gather home buying consultation responses

The Conveyancing Association (CA) will hold an online roundtable on 3 December 2025 to secure feedback for the government’s consultations on home buying reform and material information.

The Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government (MHCLG) is seeking industry feedback on its planned home buying reforms, which aim to reduce delays, fall-throughs and uncertainty in the transaction process. A second consultation focuses on the use of material information to improve transparency in the buying process by ensuring key information about a property is made available to buyers upfront.

Both consultations close on 29 December, and the roundtable will be used to secure feedback from legal member firms to directly influence the CA’s official responses and ensure the conveyancing profession is clearly represented.

The event will feature representatives from across the home-moving sector, including a practising conveyancer, Propertymark representing estate agents, and the Association of Mortgage Intermediaries (AMI). The panel will outline the key themes of the consultations, discuss the practical implications for conveyancers, and answer questions from attendees.

“It doesn’t need me to tell the conveyancing industry just how important these government consultations and their outcomes are going to be for the future of the profession and the services members will offer to consumers”, said Nicky Heathcote, non-executive chair of The Conveyancing Association (pictured).

“These consultations cover proposals that will shape the way property transactions are completed for years to come, so it is vital the practical experience of conveyancers is reflected in the final policy direction.

“Our online roundtable will provide a clear overview of the issues, give participants the chance to hear perspectives from across the sector, and ensure the CA’s response is informed by those working at the heart of the process, as will our survey, which we are encouraging all members to complete. It’s vital we hear from our members so we can ensure their wants and needs are placed at the heart of the proposals which will emanate from the government after these consultations close.”

As well as the insights gathered from the roundtable, the CA is asking members to complete a member survey to help formulate its consultation responses.

The CA says the issues raised in the consultations, as well as its responses, will form part of the programme at its 2026 Annual Conference, where members and stakeholders will explore the proposals in more depth as part of wider discussions on the future of the conveyancing sector.
