Property fraud has been an ongoing issue for many years but, according to figures reported by Express.co.uk, the Land Registry have paid out £4.9 million in respect of 53 claims arising from property fraud in 2009/2010, which is a ten fold increase in the figures from 2004/2005.  If you want to read the full article you can see it here
It is reported that this is all down to Land/Charge Certificates being abolished and the advent of online information but if someone was really intent on “stealing” the house they would eventually find a way round it.
Many homeowners could be forgiven for thinking that there is no way their property could be stolen – it’s not like a car that can be driven away after all.  Are you doing enough to protect your clients?
