Diary of a High Street Conveyancer – A salute to the profession

So , fellow conveyancers, we are nearly there… in the hope that there are no issues with the completions going ahead today, I salute you all.

It wasn’t about ‘pulling our fingers out’ (yes I saw that comment on LinkedIn and was horrified!), it was about doing the best for our clients and looking after them sometimes to the detriment of our own mental health and family life. As I write this, I wonder how many working mums sat at the laptop for much of the day yesterday and were unable to take a rest for Mother’s Day.

I hope that your clients appreciate what you have done! I have found this stamp duty break harder and more stressful than any of the others (and I think this is my sixth! – I could be wrong as I have lost count and one of those may be to do with the withdrawal of MIRAS in the late 1980s!). It has been relentless since Christmas and the last week has been horrible. And then to get comments on social media that do not appreciate how hard we are all working and what sacrifices we are having to make to make this happen for our clients. It is not fun.

I hope all goes well today.

I hope you all get a break.

I hope that we do not face anything similar again, at least not for another ten years, by which time I will have retired!

  1. How very true. I don’t think anyone realises the pressure we put under. But always try to help our clients. I do not wish to go through this again!
