The number of new registered homes being built per annum has increased by 80% over the last decade.
According to the National House Building Council’s ‘Annual New Home Statistics,’ 161,022 homes were registered with NHBC in 2019, the strongest year for new home registrations since 2007/08.
The figures also indicate an 81% increase on the 88,849 registered in 2009.
The new home registrations in 2019 also signified a 1% rise on 2018’s total of 158,878.
The private sector’s reduced confidence was apparent with the 112,086 registrations falling by 3% when compared with 2018’s 115,584.
However, new build registrations in 2019 were buoyed by a strong year for affordable and rental sector housing. The 48,936 registrations equated to a 13% rise from 2014.
Build to rent registrations enjoyed the most significant year on year growth increasing by 57% since 2018 from 149,702 registrations to 150,436.
Between 2010 and 2019, 1.4 million homes were registered to be built 4,788 by the end of last year.
New home completions marginally increased from 149,702 in to 2018 to 150,436 in 2019.
Steve Wood, NHBC Chief Executive, said:
“It is great to see the resilience of house builders over the 2019 year. This momentum needs to be maintained as we enter a new decade, with the industry ever-more focused on quality and fire safety.
“At NHBC we remain committed to our purpose of giving homeowners confidence in the quality of the nation’s new homes and working with house builders as the industry faces into the skills, supply chain and environmental challenges in front of us.”
