The conveyancer’s view: “Please can you pass the laptop charger?”

The conveyancer’s view, 18th July 2022

The 11th July’s Diary of a High Street Conveyancer was a particularly notable entry.

Sources of dispute and debate in the property market often make headlines. This issue, however, is one of far greater concern; one that goes right to the core of conveyancing, the fundamentals of their job, and ultimately their wellbeing.

The article’s author spoke of distractions, interruptions and email storms which have led to them needing to work weeknights and Sundays just to have a chance of keeping pace with the workload. They signed off the piece: “worn-out high street conveyancer”.

This prompted Today’s Conveyancer to seek answers on just how commonplace this working pattern is, and whether burnout is tightening its vice on those in the sector. The results were astounding – the five-day working week is truly beginning to elude burnt out conveyancers.

The cartoon below depicts what might seem a familiar Sunday dinner setting for many readers. Satirical? Perhaps. Sustainable? We will leave that with you…
