The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) have issued the following warning regarding Acer Solicitors.
The email address matthew.shiels@gmx.co.uk and mobile telephone number 07924 551313 are not legitimate contact details for solicitors practice Acer Solicitors.
The SRA has been informed that a number of individuals have been sent emails purportedly from Matthew Shiels of Acer Solicitors from email address matthew.shiels@gmx.co.uk relating to obtaining the benefit of an abandoned investment.
Acer Solicitors is a genuine firm which is authorised and regulated by the SRA and Matthew Shiels a solicitor and recognised sole practitioner of Acer Solicitors.
The office is located at Warwick Corner, 42 Warwick Road, Kenilworth, Warwickshire, CV8 1HE. The firm’s legitimate telephone number is 01926 866644 and the legitimate email address is advice@acersolicitors.co.uk
Any business or transactions through the email address of matthew.shiels@gmx.co.uk, or via the telephone number 07924 551313 are not undertaken by a solicitor’s practice or an individual authorised or regulated by the SRA.
The telephone number and email server address were also used in a similar scam involving London firm Guy Clapham on July 12.
Any information about or dealings with individuals via the email address matthew.shiels@gmx.co.uk or telephone number 07924 551313, particularly if it involves the payment of money, should be reported to the police.
Affected members of the public can also report the matter to the SRA via fraud@sra.org.uk. Solicitors should report the matter to the SRA red alert line on 0845 850 0999 redalert@sra.org.uk.
