We are pleased to announce that this year’s Society of Licensed Conveyancers (SLC) & Bold Legal Group (BLG) Conference will be held on Wednesday 14th November once again at the Riverside Centre in Derby. The Annual Dinner will follow the Conference at the iPro Stadium. We are delighted that Kate Faulkner has agreed to host this year’s event ‘Conveyancing – Tomorrow’s World’.

The morning session will concentrate on current issues in Conveyancing and will include the following speakers:

  • The Rt Hon Dame Janet Paraskeva DBE– Council for Licensed Conveyancers
  • Alison Bradbury – Head of Local Charges Programme, Her Majesty’s Land Registry
  • Matt Prior – Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government
  • Rebecca Marsh – Chief Ombudsman at the Legal Ombudsman

The afternoon session will be dedicated to the new and emerging technologies in Conveyancing including blockchain, artificial intelligence (AI), third party escrow payment and much more. There will be speakers and panellists from HMLR Digital Street project, Shieldpay, Gazeal, InCase, Property Log Books and The LinkApp.

Valerie Holmes, Chairman of the SLC said ‘The SLC/BLG conference is unique as it is organised by property lawyers for property lawyers, whether they be Licensed Conveyancers, Solicitors, Legal Executives or simply people employed in conveyancing practice. The Conference agenda is packed, and the panel sessions and discussions provide a great opportunity for a rich and meaningful dialogue that engages all the delegates. The dinner held on the evening of the Conference is always great fun and this year John Hendrie, ex Middlesbrough football player, will be the guest speaker and no doubt share a few interesting stories!!‘

Rob Hailstone, Founder and CEO of BLG commented ’With the Government moving forward with its plans to Improve the Home Buying and Selling Process, getting an update from Matt Prior from MHCLG on their latest thinking is a great precursor to exploring the new and emerging technologies that will affect and assist the conveyancing profession. This year we will be looking for extensive audience participation, particularly in what promises to be a highly informative and interactive afternoon session.’

The conference dinner is very popular and will be held at the iPro Stadium (home of Derby County FC) on the evening of the conference. In keeping with the venue, John Hendrie, a former professional association footballer, will share some of his experiences of playing for Middlesbrough, Newcastle United and Leeds United.

There are still spaces available at the Conference and anyone interested should e-mail info@conveyancers.org.uk. The Conference is free for all SLC members to attend and also for the first representative from each BLG member firm and is priced at the very reasonable rate of £100 for non-members.

We are looking forward to seeing you all for another informative day.

The Society of Licensed Conveyancers (SLC) is the professional body that represents the Licensed Conveyancer profession. It exists to serve the interests of its members working constructively with the Council for Licensed Conveyancers (CLC) as well as other stakeholders such as Government Departments, industry representative bodies, consumer organisations and the media; national, local and trade. The Society has existed from the time the Licensed Conveyancer profession was established by Act of Parliament in the 1980s and has delivered many important and valuable services to members over the years. The SLC is focused on six key objectives: 1. Helping members to face the future with confidence 2. Providing a viable proposition for members to act on behalf of mortgage lenders as part of their panels (SLC Quality Assured is the SLC’s new solution, which is currently in the final stages of development) 3. Providing information and advice on the opportunities that the new Alternative Business Structures (ABS) provide 4. Helping members to take advantage of technology to compete for the future 5. Providing additional products and services to help members differentiate themselves to their clients and enhance their income streams in the process 6. Give members an enhanced and inclusive professional identity
