The Society of Licensed Conveyancers (SLC) has written to the Deputy Leader of the Labour Party, Angela Rayner, about the recently enacted Leasehold & Freehold Reform Act (LFRA) and its implementation.
Leasehold expert, SLC Board Member and past Chair John Clay has set out why the provisions of the Act should be made operational as soon as possible to help millions of leaseholders up and down the country. John commented:
“Angela Rayner is likely to be in a position of great influence in the future Labour administration, potentially as Secretary of State for the Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities or any successor ministry. We therefore wanted to flag to Ms Rayner as early as possible how important the provisions of the LFRA and that they should be implemented without delay.”
In his letter, which has been copied in to a wide selection of likely future MPs and other stakeholders, also included proposals in respect of ground rents, and conversion to Commonhold. Simon Law, SLC Chair said:
“John Clay is one of the leading experts on the subject of Leasehold and the SLC Board are as one in supporting John in this initiative to place the subject of Leasehold Reform in front of the a new Labour administration.”
