SLC road shows prove popular

Nearly a third of the SLC membership attended one of their recent spring road shows. Events took place in Leicester, Newport, Brentwood and York giving conveyancers the chance to network with other and listen to a range of topical presentations.

The on-going debate around the CLC’s application to expand its regulatory powers was a hotly debated topic.

Views differed from those broadly in support of the CLC’s plans to those who hold a number of concerns about who will bear the costs of this planned expansion, and fears that the CLC could be spreading itself too thinly.

The Green Deal was also discussed with a presentation from the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and SLC member views confirming that the Green Deal is likely to place increased responsibility on conveyancers.

The SLC board also presented an update on its lender panel solution SLCQA. Simon Law, Chairman of the Society of Licensed Conveyancers (SLC) said: “We have had a really positive response to the spring road shows, which the conveyancing community found both interesting and enlightening.

“At the events, we were able to present attendees with an update across a number of the key topics that are currently impacting on our industry and that members have actively told us they want to hear more about.

"I hope that all those who attended took something away from the event and we welcome any additional feedback that members may have.”
