SLC launches Green Deal guidance to members

The Society of Licensed Conveyancers (SLC) has issued a Guidance Note for members, along with a detailed Q&A on the Green Deal and its practical implications.

Since the Government’s Green Deal launch earlier this year it has sparked a number of concerns and questions from conveyancers and consumers alike. The SLC Q&A is designed to help members answer these queries.

Guidance will include a series of recommended steps to implement when acting on behalf of either a vendor or a purchaser.

Simon Law, Chairman of the Society of Licensed Conveyancers (SLC) said: “As it is still a relatively new concept, many consumers are unaware of the implications of having a Green Deal loan attached to a property and will be looking to our members for advice.

“By introducing our own guidance, our members can ensure they are meeting their own legal obligations, while offering their clients best advice.”

The full Government guidance is available here.

So far the uptake of Green Deal loans has been extremely modest. What do you think of the scheme? Will guidance help out conveyancers? Could it lead to greater uptake?
