Risk series launches for law firm managers and compliance professionals

A new training series aimed at risk managers, compliance officers and senior leaders in law firms has been launched by Today’s Media, the publishers of Today’s Conveyancer. It will be hosted as part of the extensive training available through Today’s Training; which provide ongoing competence/CPD training for practitioners through partnerships with industry experts.

The Today’s Training Risk Management series is a series of online training events designed to help Managers, Partners and Directors within Legal Services firms understand and manage organisational risk. The series will be composed of at least ten modules to be broadcast live throughout 2025.

Training will be delivered by some of the UK’s leading risk management specialists addressing a range of topics from the impact of leadership and culture on risk through to regulation and disaster recovery amongst other topics. Throughout the series delegates will be able to choose the most relevant sessions for them to attend.

Registration links for the series will be published ahead of the launch event on the 26th February at which Andrea Cohen of Weightmans Compli, Simon McCrum of McCrum Legal and Calum MacLean of Miller Insurance, and hosted by business strategy consultant Emma Vigus will present on the current risk landscape facing law firms.

Commenting on the initiative, Simon McCrum who will be delivering a separate webinar on partnership, leadership, and organisational culture as part of the series said,

“the Today’s Training Risk Management series addresses a gap in the provision of training to legal services firms by focusing on helping managers and leaders develop their approach to managing risk at an organisational level. This is not about the minutiae of regulatory compliance, it is about embedding a robust approach to risk management in organisational culture and creating healthier, stronger businesses as a result.”

There will be no charge for the launch event, thereafter tickets for each module will be charges at £55 inc VAT and is it recommended delegates attend the training live to benefit from interactive discussion; each session is recorded and available for on-demand review.

“Empowering leaders and managers in the legal services sector with the expertise and knowledge to navigate risk strengthens the resilience and security of the home moving industry. It is a vital part of our mission at PEXA, aligning with our aim to deliver safer, more secure property transactions for all, so we’re proud to be supporting this initiative.”

said Matt Ellis, CRO at PEXA, one of the sponsors of the series.

The launch event panel discussion will provide detailed insight into the risk landscape for legal services firms addressing both current and emerging risks and the management of those risks. The panel will discuss

  • The risks legal services firms currently face from managing regulatory change through to the risk arising from recruitment and retention challenges.
  • Emerging risks from the potential impact of restrictions on holding client money through to economic instability.
  • The impact of these risks on leadership, employees, operations, client relationships, and professional obligations.
  • How Partners, Directors and Managers can embed and maintain an effective approach to risk management and the role of culture in influencing organisational risk.
  • How to align effective risk management with great business performance.
  • The Professional Indemnity insurance landscape – underwriters perceptions of risk; the impact of that perception on insurance rates and the steps that underwriters want firms to take to manage risk.
