The latest Money and Credit Report from the Bank of England has revealed 70,758 mortgage loans were approved in November.
This was considerably higher than the six month average of 62,999 with the increase equating to £0.9 billion compared to October.
The number of approvals for remortgaging was 34,642 compared to the average of 34,405 over the previous six months.
The number of approvals for other purposes was 13,101, similar to the average over the previous six months.
