North West Ambitions for Growing Law Firm

Warrington firm FDR Law, has been acquired by the South-East’s Taylor Rose MW Group in a bid to strengthen significant expansion plans in the North-West.

The acquisition is the first stage in a strategy that the Taylor Rose MW Group hopes will expand the firm’s parallel consultant solicitor presence and develop a stronghold in the North-West.

Following last year’s acquisition of London firm McMillan Williams, Taylor Rose MW Group now has more than 1000 employees and 31 offices across the South-East, and is worth around £70m. FDR is now set to join the firm as the hub of the group’s operational expansion across the North-West via further mergers, acquisitions and development areas of practice, such as conveyancing.

The latest acquisition is expected to provide a foundation for the group to grow a national network which supports a rather unusual practice model of running a traditional law firm operation alongside a consultancy business. Taylor Rose MW reported that its consultancy arm is on track to contribute 40% of the firm’s revenue this year.

Adrian Jaggard, Chief Executive of Taylor Rose MW commented:

“After the successful integration of McMillan Williams, we are now looking to make Taylor Rose MW an even more significant player in the consumer law market than it already is. The North-West has a heavy concentration of both lawyers and firms, and at a time when the market is changing, we offer something unique to those who want to find better ways to operate.”

FDR Law, previously Forshaws Davies Ridgway, has five partners among 24 qualified lawyers and 55 people in total. The business will retain its brand and management team as part of the acquisition deal.

FDR Law partner Margaret Evans commented:

“We have made the decision to join the Taylor Rose MW group from a position of strength but also in recognition that the legal market is consolidating. We can see significant opportunities to grow our business with the support, know-how and muscle that Taylor Rose MW brings.”
