New version of SRA handbook released

A new version of the SRA handbook was published on the 1 November 2016, with all changes coming into effect on this date.

The 18th version has repealed the SRA Training Regulations 2011 Part 3 – CPD Regulations. This brings the previous requirement for solicitors to undertake a specific number of training hours each year to a close.

The alterations also mean that the new continuing competence approach becomes mandatory for solicitors from 1 November 2016.

This approach requires solicitors to reflect on the quality of their practice on a regular basis, as well as addressing the relevant development and learning needs, in order for a proper standard to be provided to their clients. An Annual Declaration will still be required by the solicitor to indicate that they have reflected on their practice as well as addressing any identified needs.

Full details on continuing competence can be found here.
