To support law firms and legal professionals in maintaining their AML training and compliance to the SRA’s latest standards, Access Legal, leading provider of software and services to the UK legal market, launches key updates to its PEPs and Sanctions and Conflicts of Interest courses.
The updated courses from Access Legal Learning will be released on Thursday 13 March and will offer law firms guidance on their obligations for PEPs (politically exposed persons) and sanctions, and prepare them for how to deal with conflicts of interest in day-to-day legal practice.
The PEPS and Sanctions course, designed specifically for law firms, will ensure that learners understand what a PEP is, how to identify one and the risks they can bring to a relationship. Learners will also receive guidance on complying with sanctions legislation and how to employ best practice for sanctions.
The Conflicts of Interest course, which will cover the latest SRA regulation, is in place to safeguard law firms and their clients. It offers practical scenarios that illustrate how legal practices should deal with conflicts of interest and covers situations that may develop into a conflict and how to utilise best practice to keep to the letter of the law.
Louise Hodkiss, Learning Content Lead at Access Legal Learning, says both course updates are vital for legal professionals to remain up-to-date with changes in legislation and standards:
“Our courses not only offer great value to law firms, but also a reassurance that all employees are able to recognise a PEP, or are equipped with the knowledge of how to handle a conflict of interest within the practice – ensuring quality levels are maintained.
“Beyond the personal development for lawyers, having legal practitioners who are equipped with the right knowledge to overcome challenges in their role while remaining compliant, also positively impacts the overall productivity and efficiency of a firm to help them deliver the best possible legal services to clients.”
Further to the new courses, and following publication of the SRA’s AML Training Thematic Review and AML Annual Report, many of Access Legal Learning’s AML Policies and Precedents have been updated and are available to firms to access to support ongoing compliance.
Access Legal Learning’s policies and precedents library contains 75+ policies, precedents and supporting documents to help COLPs, COFAs and firm management meet their regulatory requirements and create a culture of compliance throughout the firm.
