NEW: Climate change – online training module for conveyancers

Legal Eye and Groundsure have partnered to produce a comprehensive, detailed guide to help conveyancers implement the Law Society’s 2025 Guidance Note on climate change, which also includes guidance on how to advise clients.

The Guidance Note introduces new responsibilities for conveyancers requiring them to effectively discharge their duties in line with the guidance. It applies specifically to property transactions and is relevant to firms of all sizes that carry out commercial or residential conveyancing.

On completion of the online climate change module, through the Legal Eye Academy, you’ll learn:

  • How to advise on climate risks
  • How climate risk searches can assist
  • Explore the physical risks – who should advise?
  • Explore transitional risks – how are property values impacted?
  • Understand the potential liability or legal risks
  • Learn about climate model UKCP18 (the most up-to-date model used within the industry)
  • See how to evaluate flood risks.

Catherine Shiers, Customer Engagement Director, said:

We’re pleased to launch the new Climate Change and Conveyancing module in partnership with Legal Eye, offering practical support to conveyancers in meeting the new expectations set out in the Law Society’s 2025 Practice Note. Climate risk is becoming a key consideration in property transactions, and this training ensures that firms, regardless of whether they’re handling residential or commercial matters, are equipped to advise clients confidently and competently.

“Through the Legal Eye Academy, users will gain essential knowledge on assessing physical and transitional risks, understanding of  the legal responsibilities, and make the best use of climate data and searches in the conveyancing process.

Legal Eye’s MD Paul Saunders said:

Climate change and the likely impact risk on property and the impact on property values, is an increasingly important topic for conveyancers and their clients. It’s important to understand our obligations as professional advisers and equally importantly, is to appreciate where those obligations start and end. This module is essential viewing for anyone engaging with clients around property transactions.”
