The CLC has awarded Conveyancing Direct Property Lawyers (CDPL) an alternative business structure (ABS) licence.

The Hastings-based firm which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of estate agency group Connells.

Managing Director, Andrew Palmer said: “We are delighted that approval has finally been granted for CDPL’s ABS licence.

“Although plans are yet to be finalised regarding how we intend to use the licence, we do believe it will support our growth ambitions going forward by enabling us to offer multiple services to our clients.”

Connells Group Conveyancing Services Director Roger Wilson, added: “Achieving ABS status puts CDPL and the Connells Group’s conveyancing operation in a stronger position to adapt or rapidly expand our in-house operation should the need arise.

“For example, should a ban on referral arrangements be re-introduced in the conveyancing arena, it will enable us to adjust our business structure accordingly and continue to meet the demands of our customers for conveyancing services.”

Runnett & Co, Advantage Property Lawyers (APL) in Leeds and East Midlands-based conveyancers Red Legal have also been granted licenses in the last couple of weeks.
