The Law Society has announced a collaboration with LawCare, The Solicitors’ Charity and the Mindful Business Charter as part of efforts to improve mental health and wellbeing across the profession.
It is hoped, said the Law Society, The Solicitor Wellbeing Alliance will make it easier for solicitors and firms to find and access the right support by improving awareness and signposting between organisations offering support for practitioners.
The Alliance will also work on shared priorities, “focusing on what the four organisations can achieve together that they couldn’t do alone” and sharing insight on trends and emerging issues affecting solicitor wellbeing.
In its Life in the Law 2025 report, LawCare research found half of respondents had experienced anxiety over the last 12 months. Three in five had poor mental wellbeing and around two in five (43.4%) said their mental health and wellbeing was significantly influenced by work. The new alliance will have a “unified voice and identify… (to) positively influence organisational culture and working practices.”
Law Society of England and Wales president, Mark Evans, who will step down to join LawCare as its new CEO in November said: “Solicitors face significant wellbeing challenges and no single organisation can tackle them alone. By joining forces, we can raise awareness of the support already available, share expertise and help drive healthier workplace cultures across the profession.
“The Alliance brings together organisations with a shared goal: ensuring solicitors can access the support they need to thrive.
“Over the coming year, Alliance members will work together to develop and deliver practical outputs that improve awareness of support, share learning and help solicitors and legal organisations take positive action on wellbeing.”
