Law Society’s CQS backed by Legal Ombudsman

The Law Society’s new home buyer quality mark, the Conveyancing Quality Scheme (CQS), is receiving the backing of the Legal Ombudsman in their commitment to ‘drive up standards in the home buying market’.
The Legal Ombudsman, the complaints body for the legal profession, say the scheme, which opened for applications in January, has ‘a strong benefit for consumers’.
With only 90 firms currently holding the accreditation the Law Society say that hundreds are still waiting to undergo the rigorous assessment procedure before they gain their accreditation.
Adam Sampson, Chief Executive of the Legal Ombudsman, commented:
"Any initiative aimed at ensuring excellent client care and promoting good practice in the provision of legal services to the consumer is a step forward for the legal sector. The home buying process is one of the most stressful experiences of anyone’s life, so to have a commitment to high client care standards for that process is not only good for the residential property market, it is a boost for the consumer”.
Linda Lees, the President of the Law Society said:
"We are confident that CQS membership, as with the Society’s other initiatives aimed at promoting excellent service and care for clients, such as Lexcel, will ensure the standards the Ombudsman expects are truly met."
