The Law Society is seeking opinions on suggested revisions to their National Conveyancing Protocol.
According to Chancery Lane, the proposed changes arise from:
- Issues that they know can cause problems in practice
- Changes in the law or regulations
- Matters that could be subject to change in future
They went on to state that the suggested amendments include matters which has assumed a greater significance or have changed.
Examples include:
- The increasingly complex framework for Stamp Duty Land Tax
- Growing concern about the status of those purporting to sell or buy a property, as well as the concern around fraud in general
- Increased focus on transactions falling through and the impact this can have on consumers
- The need for consumers to have a greater understanding of the home moving process
The Society is calling for users of the protocol or those who have an interest in its use to share their views on the proposals.
