Last chance to book for SLC roadshow in Cambridge

Fraud and cyber crime event a ‘must attend’ for conveyancers.

The Society of Licensed Conveyancers (SLC) will hold its first 2016 spring roadshow in Cambridge on Tuesday 26th April at the Abbey Stadium. With the risks of fraud and cyber crime taking ever greater prominence in the life of conveyancers the Society has decided to devote the spring roadshows this year entirely to these subjects. The presentations will be focussed on Conveyancing (rather than being of a general nature) and will provide the forum for the launch of the new SLC cyber risk insurance policy.

The presentations will include the perspective of mortgage lenders on fraud and how risks can be reduced using Lawyer Checker and Safe Move. There will be a presentation on cyber crime and the many different types that can occur, and the launch of the new SLC cyber crime insurance policy.

Simon Law, Chairman of SLC said: ‘The risk of being a victim of fraud and cyber crime has never been greater, with the criminal community focusing on the very large sums of money that conveyancers routinely handle. We must be wary of believing that it ‘won’t happen to me’, as the well reported instances of Penny Hastings (Max Hastings wife) and the solicitor Karen Mackie attest to the fact that it can happen to anyone. The Spring roadshows will offer a unique insight into how the risks of fraud and cyber crime can be minimised and what options there are to insure away any potential financial loss.’

The roadshows, which are sponsored by Index PI, Stewart Title and Redbrick Solutions are open to all conveyancers. Whilst Society members may attend for free, the cost to non members is an
extremely reasonable £75.00.

The event carries 4 CPD points for all delegates.

Society of Licensed Conveyancers

The Society of Licensed Conveyancers (SLC) is the professional body that represents the Licensed Conveyancer profession. It exists to serve the interests of its members working constructively with the Council for Licensed Conveyancers (CLC) as well as other stakeholders such as Government Departments, industry representative bodies, consumer organisations and the media; national, local and trade.

The Society has existed from the time the Licensed Conveyancer profession was established by Act of Parliament in the 1980s and has delivered many important and valuable services to members over the years.

The SLC is focused on six key objectives:

1. Helping members to face the future with confidence

2. Providing a viable proposition for members to act on behalf of mortgage lenders as part of their panels (SLC Quality Assured is the SLC’s new solution, which is currently in the final stages of development)

3. Providing information and advice on the opportunities that the new Alternative Business Structures (ABS) provide

4. Helping members to take advantage of technology to compete for the future

5. Providing additional products and services to help members differentiate themselves to their clients and enhance their income streams in the process

6. Give members an enhanced and inclusive professional identity
