The license to run the The National Land Information Service (NLIS) Hub, which provides land and property information from every Local Authority in England and Wales, HM Land Registry and the Mining Remediation Authority, has been renewed with Land Data and Decision Insight Group to March 2027.
The NLIS hub has been in existence since 2001 allowing search companies and conveyancers to access all 339 registering local authorities, alongside HM Land Registry, Thames Water and the Mining Remediation Authority. It has processed since over 27 million searches since launching and continues to champion Official Searches which ‘are backed by an unlimited Government guarantee’ say Land Data.
Nick Dyoss the NLIS Hub Director said:
“Official Searches are still very much in demand and NLIS continues to grow with Wessex Searches having just joined as a new NLIS channel. This contractual foundation should give our customers confidence that we remain dedicated to delivering the best possible service in the Official Searches market.”
The contract extension comes at a time when Land Data is conducting extensive market research to understand the needs of the conveyancing searches market. Land Data will use this insight to identify how NLIS can evolve to streamline and improve the Official Searches market, supporting stable property transactions for consumers.
Fiona Barron, Land Data Chief Executive added:
“NLIS is a local government success story, and an important part of our national data infrastructure. Over the past 24 years it has supported many thousands of people to move home confidently – it now needs to adapt to future user needs and a world of greater digitalisation. This is an exciting time for NLIS and Land Data and I look forward to sharing the outcomes of our research.”
