Key leaders and influencers from across the property sector are set to discuss the changes needed within the property sector with HM Land Registry (HMLR) Chief Mike Harlow in a new podcast series.
The new podcast – Property with a View – has been launched by the Digital Property Market Steering Group (DPMSG). The programme of content is set to feature leaders and influencers from all corners of the industry.
In this first episode – available on all podcast platforms and YouTube – Mike and the Home Buying and Selling Group’s (HBSG) Beth Rudolf talk about the need for change in the property market, the existing efforts of the HBSG, and how upfront information can support the transformation everyone is seeking.
The podcast is designed to update the sector on the group’s activities, its joint launch event in September, and the progress of its four working groups. The second episode of Property with a View will be available next month.
This comes as a recent Today’s Conveyancer survey revealed four in five conveyancers said they don’t know how the DPMSG will impact conveyancing, they don’t know what it is, or that it won’t have any impact on their practice at all.
The same survey revealed less than one in four conveyancers see a lack of upfront information was a key issue. What’s more, just 14% – one in seven – reported a lack of digitalisation as a key issue, begging the question of whether the focus of those making decisions regarding the profession aligns with what challenges frontline residential conveyancers are facing on a day-to-day basis.
Nevertheless, the DPMSG will focus on accelerating the adoption of digital technology across both residential and commercial land and property markets.
DPMSG founding members are: the Law Society; the Conveyancing Association (CA); the Council for Licensed Conveyancers; the Society of Licensed Conveyancers; the Solicitors Regulation Authority; the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS); the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEX); CILEx Regulation; the Council of Property Search Organisations; Propertymark; the Building Societies Association; UK Finance; and HM Land Registry.
The DPMSG sets out its vision as follows:
“We want everyone involved in buying, leasing and selling land and property to experience a secure and modern market that is transparent, customer-friendly and business-friendly at all stages. Through collaboration, innovation and a focus on emerging digital technologies we will build on existing progress across the home buying and selling system to get a better result for the customer: simpler, faster, more certain and less stressful.”
The DPMS adds that its membership and shared vision means it is “well-placed to join up with the delivery activity being led by other groups who share the same ambition for a better property market, including the Home Buying and Selling Group (HBSG)”. This joined up approach is said to be reflected in the co-hosting of the DPMSG launch event in September by Kate Faulkner OBE, Chair of the HBSG, and Mike Harlow of HMLR.
