HMLR plans to publish conveyancer data

New proposals set out by HM Land Registry could mean top conveyancers are ranked in accordance with completion of HMLR documentation.

Published on their website at the end of last year, the proposals aim to increase transparency of data for property and land transactions, as well as enabling consumers to gain a clearer understanding of how their conveyancer is performing alongside competitors.

They are looking to publish data demonstrating the number of registration applications receiver as well as the number of requisitions sent in response, aiming to provide consumers with the relevant comparative information.

They also say that they are currently in the process of working with the conveyancing and general legal sector to gather opinions on the publication of this data, scheduled for 2018.

At present, HMLR are planning to publish:

  • a downloadable comma separated value (CSV) file which could name the 500 customers who sent us the highest volume of applications (year to date) and show the percentage of the applications they sent us which needed further work before we could process them; and
  • a chart that tracks the data mentioned above for the top 50 customers by volume of applications sent.
