HM Land Registry’s new digital validation checks in Hoowla’s conveyancing software

Hoowla is proud to be among the first providers to work closely with HM Land Registry on their new digital validation checks, designed to reduce requisitions and save conveyancers’ valuable time. Hoowla’s position as HM Land Registry’s second-largest submissions integrator enabled Hoowla to be instrumental in trialing and refining the system before its wider release. By adopting these innovations early, Hoowla continues to demonstrate our commitment to providing a modern, reliable case management solution that supports the evolving needs of the legal industry.

“I was really pleased Hoowla was part of the test phase of their new digital validation checks,” said Adam Curtis, Managing Director at Hoowla. “Being fully integrated since 2016 with the existing services, and now their second largest integrated system by volume, this further supports our commitment to the conveyancing industry.”

The introduction of digital validation checks is part of HM Land Registry’s wider initiative to reduce delays and requisitions across the conveyancing sector. By automating some of the checks that were previously completed manually by caseworkers, the system can now flag simple administrative errors (such as misspelled names or incorrect title numbers) as the application is submitted. This reduces the likelihood of errors slipping through and avoids unnecessary delays for both conveyancers and their clients.

HM Land Registry has said, “By introducing Digital Checks, we aim to help customers get their applications right the first time. These checks bring forward the manual checks undertaken by our caseworkers, often resulting in requests for more information which can cause delays and prevent our caseworkers from processing other applications. Digital checks will therefore improve HMLR processing times and saves both time and money for conveyancers and their clients.”

HM Land Registry has long emphasised the benefits of digital applications in reducing errors and speeding up registration times. The introduction of automated validation checks builds on that goal by preventing applications containing basic errors from being submitted through the Digital Registration Service or integrated software such as Hoowla conveyancing software. The project is part of  HM Land Registry’s long-term plan to save firms an estimated 300,000 hours of administrative time each year by 2028, highlighting the tangible benefits for the wider industry.

As an early adopter and supportive partner, Hoowla has played a key role in assisting HM Land Registry’s throughout the development and rollout of this feature. The Hoowla system facilitated the first submission through the new Digital Registration Service APIs earlier this year. Since then, more than 200 successful submissions have been processed through Hoowla using the updated system, giving users a real advantage in faster, more reliable applications.

“Reducing delays and requisitions is at the heart of this project,” said Edd Turtle, Lead Developer at Hoowla. “We’re proud to have supported HM Land Registry in shaping and testing this new phase of digital conveyancing. Their team has taken the time to understand how Hoowla works, and together we’ve developed a system that fits within our processes.”

Requisitions often cause of delay in conveyancing, triggered by minor details that require manual correction and resubmission. By shifting these checks to the point of submission, Hoowla users can now catch issues instantly, preventing weeks of waiting and correspondence with caseworkers. This proactive approach supports both efficiency and accuracy, giving conveyancers confidence that their applications are complete and compliant from the outset.

As a modern case management solution, Hoowla continues to evolve in line with the needs of legal professionals. Our flexible, intuitive platform allows firms of all sizes to customise workflows, manage cases efficiently, and access the latest tools and integrations that help reduce administrative burden. Whether firms are adopting digital submission processes for the first time or seeking to enhance existing systems, Hoowla provides a solid framework that supports growth and efficiency across every stage of the conveyancing process.

“Working with our early adopter customers, including Hoowla, has been invaluable.” Sophie Rickards, Senior Product Lead at HM Land Registry continues, “Their feedback helped us understand how digital checks performed in real-world conveyancing scenarios, identify and resolve issues early, and make significant improvements to our developer pack. This collaboration has also ensured the new registration service is fully ready for wider rollout.”

Hoowla works closely with HM Land Registry, reflecting our role as a trusted and supportive partner within the industry. As new features are developed and rolled out, we integrate them early, ensuring conveyancers always have access to tools that make their work more manageable and accurate. By combining cutting-edge technology with a deep understanding of legal workflows, Hoowla continues to support the conveyancing community, helping firms navigate an increasingly digital environment.
