The Great Big Legal Offsite (GLBO) will return on 3rd July to bring together the UK’s SME legal leaders for a ‘transformative strategy day’, following a successful debut event last year.
Hosted at Ribby Hall Village in Lancashire, the event will feature practical tactical sessions aimed at future-proofing law firms – along with robots, live music and monster trucks.
Co-founded by boutique risk management consultancy HiveRisk and The Legally Speaking Podcast, the community led initiative focuses on the ‘comprehensive ecosystem’ of the SME legal sector, bringing together managing partners, directors and senior leadership from SME law firms to collaborate and build stronger networks across the sector.
Expert speakers will include Akil Hunte, a multi-award-winning lawyer, public speaker, consultant, spoken word poet, and social entrepreneur; Jodie Hill, who self-describes as a neurodivergent employment and HR law solicitor, ED&I consultant, coach and trainer, author, and campaigner; Oscar Davies, award-winning barrister and the first in the UK to be publicly recognised as non-binary and to use the title ‘Mx’ in court, and many more.
Participants will explore the key forces shaping the legal sector today, including compliance, AI, culture and strategy. The event will be hosted by Peter Dickson, the voice behind The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent, along Robert Hanna (founder and managing director of KC Partners) and Kate Burt (founder of Hive Risk). A forest-themed sensory room, live poetry and music performances will also feature.
Justine Westwell, managing director of HiveRisk, said:
“The event is going to be a fantastic, one-of-a-kind opportunity. It’s a chance to connect with fellow legal leaders in a setting that encourages fresh thinking, strategic reflection and a bit of fun too.
“GLBO is about creating a space away from the day-to-day pressures of practice, where people can have honest conversations and walk away with new ideas which they can actually use.”
Kate Burt, HiveRisk CEO, added:
“What makes the Great Big Legal Offsite stand out is that it doesn’t just gather the usual suspects to rehash the same clichés. It’s a space for bold thinking, real challenge, and practical insight. The business of law doesn’t live in a vacuum, it lives in the decisions law firm leaders make every day. This offsite is about connecting that reality with actionable insights in a way that actually works.”
