Lindsay Petzer, Senior Solutions Engineer at Checkboard, explains what drew her to Checkboard, what a typical day looks like in her role, the innovative risk mitigation technology behind Checkboard’s client onboarding solution and shares key challenges within the industry.
Lindsay, can you please introduce yourself?
Hi, my name is Lindsay Petzer and I’m Senior Solutions Engineer at Checkboard. I have worked in the industry and specifically in the risk mitigation space for many years. Prior to Checkboard, I was employed at Lawyer Checker as Key Relationship Manager and then Lead Sales Manager when we were acquired by Dye & Durham, incorporating Lawyer Checker, Terrafirma and Future Climate (FCI).
Let’s get to know you a little better with some quick-fire questions.
Go to hot drink?
My favourite hot drink is the M&S Shortbread Biscuit tea, when I’m craving something sweet it tricks my brain into thinking I have a biscuit with my cup of tea.
Favourite holiday destination?
South Africa. I spent over 2 weeks in South Africa a few years ago and loved the safaris, all the lovely places to visit and I really hope to go back someday soon.
Favourite thing to do at the weekend?
I love to be outside, going on long walks with my partner and our 2 Italian Greyhounds. I also enjoy spinning and anything that keeps me moving.
Now let’s get back to the work-related questions….
What does a typical working day look like for you?
Before work I generally exercise (either spinning or strength training), this is then followed by a walk in our country park with our 2 dogs Cam & Freddie (see photo) all before 8am. I find that it sets me up for the day and keeps me focused and full of energy.
I am generally on my emails pretty early, then spend my day arranging and carrying out product demonstrations with interested firms. I also onboard new firms and provide training sessions for existing clients and partners. This is all alongside ensuring that our clients are happy and have everything that they need to utilise our platform fully. I frequently lend a hand in supporting marketing initiatives given my knowledge of the industry. We always want to make sure we are providing our clients and potential clients with value.
I also spend time creating and hosting webinars to educate and drive awareness of what Checkboard has to offer, alongside sharing knowledge and market insights.
After work, I love to cook with my partner (generally with some upbeat music in the background!), we love to try different foods. After our bellies are full, we like to relax and unwind in front of the TV with a good Netflix series.
What are the things you enjoy most about working at Checkboard and your clients?
One thing that appealed to me before joining Checkboard was their drive for innovation, we are consistently releasing new and exciting features and product additions to support firms with client onboarding. This means that I always have something exciting to talk about!
The people at Checkboard are what makes us unique, our team are a real joy to work with and nothing is too much of an issue. I also need to mention our fantastic support team, they really go over and above and have amazing online and in-app reviews from our end users. It really gives our firms confidence that their clients are in safe hands.
What are some challenges you see the market facing right now?
Since working in the industry, I have seen an increased concern surrounding the risks associated with cybercrime. Unfortunately, criminals are always finding innovative ways to impersonate or intercept transactions.
Law firms are having to continuously monitor and seek ways to mitigate these risks. For example, the SRA recently warned lawyers who rely on video calls to identify their clients of the risks posed by ‘deepfake technology’. It’s genuinely very scary when you view an example of a deepfake video and get to see just how realistic these videos actually are.
For a number of years, law firms have been working towards streamlining their processes and reducing the time they spend on manual tasks during the conveyancing process. From my discussions with firms, I do believe that it is still a challenge for some, however as we all know, Rome wasn’t built in a day.
