A fast-track route to a conveyancing and probate qualification has been launched by the Council for Licensed Conveyancers (CLC) as the regulator steps up efforts to tackle the demand for both legal services.
The route to becoming a licensed practitioner now provides an exemption for those with a law degree from the Level 4 Diploma, which qualifies them as a conveyancing or probate technician, and enables them to study for a Level 6 Diploma. Combined with two years’ experience, the qualification will provide the same practising rights as a solicitor, in their chosen area of expertise.
The CLC recently launched its Professional Experience Exemption to encourage those already working in those practice areas to take the next step in their careers. The Advanced Probate Exemption has also been introduced for STEP (Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners) professionals.
The cost of completing the Law Graduate Fast Track Exemption and qualifying as a CLC conveyancing or probate practitioner is estimated to be around £2,000. The CLC said study can also be managed around work that can contribute to the attainment of practical experience, meaning that this is a route to qualification without the burden of additional student debt.
Claire Richardson, director of authorisations at the CLC, said:
“With the demand for conveyancing and probate lawyers continuing to grow, this is an exciting opportunity for graduates which recognises the legal studies they have already undertaken and offers them a time-efficient and cost-effective route to qualification.
“Graduates who are already working in conveyancing or probate have the chance to qualify in as little as two years depending on their pace of study and the relevance of their role.
“For those who aren’t yet in employment, it is a highly accessible way to enter the profession and take the first step of what can be an interesting and extremely rewarding career.”
