Employee perk partnership offers low and no-cost holidays

A Lincolnshire-based conveyancing practice has introduced a new employee benefits scheme which enables staff to accumulate monthly travel credits which can be used to book holidays.

In an effort to tackle the challenges of staff recruitment and retention, Fletcher Longstaff have offered employees no and low-cost holidays through a partnership with Offwork; an employee perk platform through which employers contributions build up credit for employees to be used against booking holidays through the portal.

Offwork’s website says it offers holidays ‘which include flights from over 140 carriers and more than 2 million accommodation options’ – with an added sustainability bonus of auto offsetting any flights booked through the its platform.

Fletcher Longstaff Managing Director Tom Hansen said the firm had previously offered performance-related bonuses, medical insurance, and retail perks to staff, but wanted to introduce a new benefit that would help cement Fletcher Longstaff as an ‘employer of choice’ and says the reaction to the new perk has been ‘overwhelmingly positive,’ offering something more exciting and tangible than previous schemes.

“Conveyancing has become an increasingly stressful profession to work in: client expectations are high and our responsibilities are ever increasing. It is vital that we retain our high-quality staff in order to continue to deliver the excellent level of service we seek to provide and are known for.

“It is a competitive market – there are more conveyancers leaving the profession than joining it – and a sensible workload with competitive salary is the bare minimum. We are always looking for new initiatives to provide further incentive and support to our existing team and to attract new staff in future, and Offwork makes it easier for our staff to have great quality time off.”

Citing research by The Conveyancing Foundation in their ‘Wellbeing at Work Survey 2024,’ workplace stress remains a ‘significant factor’ for 68% of conveyancers, with 14% stating that stress is a ‘constant factor in their working lives. Offwork’s own research suggests many workers have as much as a week of unused leave remaining at the end of each year due to heavy workloads, staff shortages, and poor planning

“In a survey of 1,000 full-time UK workers, 41% reported typically having five or more days left by the end of the year. Offering a travel-based incentive also actively encourages staff to take quality time off, something which our own research highlights Brits struggle to do.”

said Offwork co-founder Bradley McKenny, adding

“Rather than accepting the status quo, it’s great to see Fletcher Longstaff providing an outside-the-box solution to a widespread industry problem, by revisiting its employer benefits programme and looking at what can be done to attract and retain conveyancers.”
