As I get older and closer to the end of my career than the start, I have been thinking about all of the inspirational people I have met throughout my life, and in particular, inspirational characters within the conveyancing world. And I say ‘characters’ as opposed to conveyancers or solicitors, as some are not doing the day to day job of conveyancing but are in the supporting cast, as it were!
One such character was an estate agent, the same age as me, who I met early on in my conveyancing days. He was kind, supportive but said it how it was. And you knew if you had displeased him! Over the years, we became , and still are, very good friends, attending each other’s weddings and regular lunches – in the days when lunches were a ‘thing’!
And he taught me a lot about estate agency and I would like to think that perhaps I taught him a thing or two about conveyancing. He has never been interested in referral arrangements, just wanting the job done as quickly and efficiently as possible . When he needs a question answered, he picks up the phone and asks. If he needs to resolve some sort of stalemate between the conveyancers, he picks up the phone and speaks to each conveyancer , trying to bang their heads together for the best of the clients.
We all need this type of person in our lives – let’s call mine Dave! Dave’s are helpful, loyal , willing to learn and happy to teach.
Have a think this week – who is the Dave in your life?
