Diary of a high street conveyancer; 27th June 2022

“After so much complexity, the simplicity is bewildering. Not that I’m complaining.”

This was in an email I received from a client this week, who, after a difficult leasehold purchase could not believe how simple completion was; she was a cash buyer but she clearly thought that completion was going to be far more complicated than it was. And when you think about it, she is right.

But conveyancers know that although it appears simple to the client with the transfer of funds, it is not as simple for us conveyancers. The hard part is up to exchange of contracts – making sure that everything is in order so that completion will happen on the day agreed, and that when the buyer comes to sell the property in the future, there will be no issues.

I don’t intend to write anything more this week but just leave the client’s words with you … it sums up so much in just twelve words.

This is written by a real high street conveyancer who wishes to remain anonymous. Read more in Today’s Conveyancer every week.
