I was out with some conveyancing colleagues on Friday evening. It was an enjoyable evening, an Awards evening. Now I find the whole area of awards in the workplace fascinating, as it seems to be the case that every profession or area of work has some form of awards. It is important to celebrate success but I am always left sad for those who have bought a new outfit and begun the evening in high anticipation only to lose to the business on the next road who are their competitors.
So as the wine flowed, I started to think about conveyancing and awards. There are many awards for conveyancing both through local law societies and through larger groups – we all know that Today’s Conveyancer have an annual awards ( and I am not adverse to anyone nominating me if you wish! The accolade of Conveyancing Champion would go down very nicely – thank you ! )
But I would like to raise a glass to all of my fellow conveyancers who go above and beyond every working hour without asking for any award or entering for any awards on offer. Those who really do want to make a positive difference to the client’s experience of conveyancing and go about their role , day in and day out, without a song and dance. I know many who would win the award of ‘day in, day out slog’. They are trusted and reliable, have integrity and are always there to provide support to other conveyancers.
So this morning, I would like you all to raise your morning cup of tea or coffee to the unsung champions of our sector. We all know them. We all trust them. I have certain colleagues in mind as I write this; they are always doing the best for others without wanting an award but just the thanks from the client and an acknowledgement that they are there, trying to make a difference.
Thank you – thank you for the work you do to try and make conveyancing great in difficult times; we all deserve awards but some more than others.

I feel like I am one of those day-in-day-out conveyancers. Sadly half the time I do not even get as much as a thank-you email.
